A Self Sufficient Life – What is involved?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Self sufficient life involves learning to live simpler, and in such a way that is sustainable - that means we are less dependent on the system for our basic needs. It comes as a surprise to most people that it is very possible to do so. It just requires a little planning and work. But those who have done it agree that it is worth the efforts. Let's take a quick overview of three basic needs for a self-sufficient life.

1. Water

This is the first item because it is such a vital and for which so many people depend on municipal supplies. The best and most ideal way to provide water for your family on a sustainable basis, with a spring or brook, which runs for about a year. Although it is challenging to find, there are rural properties, which are accessible to those of surface water sources. The next best choice is a private good that I include the upfront investment, but well will provide water for many decades. If you are unable to move in yet, it's a good idea to own quality water filter that you can provide your family with safe drinking water in times of crisis.

2. Food

The city has an average of only about three days with food, and when the crisis has emptied the shelves in a hurry. Even many people who live in rural areas more dependent on the grocery stores for food, while disruptions in the transportation system can quickly lead to the same problem - empty shelves in supermarkets. There is no reason why people can not grow much of their own food - unless they have a place to do it. As this post written on the edge of the spring is an ideal time to make your garden started.  But enough self-defense of life also includes training for food and. This will allow your family to enjoy year around the more food you grow yourself.

3. Warm

Most people rely on electricity and gas for heating their homes. A better alternative to using a wood stove. There are many options when it comes to wood stoves, but we recommend that you consider the wood cook stove, because it can serve two purposes - as home heating, as well as a way to make cooking and baking. There are excellent quality wood cook stoves currently available, but we recommend Flame type model, which is Amish, and the highest quality.

Country Living ...

You can see that this is just a given that the country life goes hand in hand with self-sufficient life. If you still live in the city, however, you can begin to put these things into practice. If you want to get out of the city start putting your mind to work in this direction, and ask God for help. With careful research, planning and help from above - you can make this move.

There are other things we can do to become more self-sufficient. For example, we can learn to make our own soap, clothing, lotions and other personal care needs, such as a natural means of using herbs.
